women-only safaris · arusha, tanzania
Tanzania safaris built only for women travelers.
Small group safaris, Kilimanjaro climbs and Zanzibar trips for women only — run on the ground by Exceptional Travel Expert, a licensed Tanzanian operator. Travel solo and join other women, or bring your own group. Either way, you're never the only woman in the truck.
"I came alone and left with seven new friends, a tan, and a Kilimanjaro photo I still can't believe is mine."
why a women-only safari
What "women-only" actually means on this trip — and why it matters.
It's not a marketing label. It changes who's in the vehicle, who's leading your trip, and how the whole experience is paced. Here's exactly what that looks like and why women keep choosing it over a standard mixed-group safari.
You travel with women only — no exceptions
Every seat in the vehicle, every tent neighbour, every person at the campfire is a woman. No mixed groups, no surprises on arrival. If you're traveling solo, this is what makes that decision easy.
Safety is designed in, not promised after
Camp placement, daily timings, and how we brief each guest are all built around solo female travelers specifically — not adapted from a general safari template after the fact.
Groups stay small enough to actually bond
A maximum of 8 women per departure. Most guests know everyone's name by the second night, and a lot of friendships outlast the trip itself — this is the most common feedback we get.
You're booking directly with the operator on the ground
Exceptional Travel Expert is a licensed Tanzanian DMC based in Arusha. No overseas agency adding a markup or a layer of miscommunication between you and the people actually running your safari.

what's actually different here
How a women-only safari with us is different from just adding "women-only" to a normal trip.
- →
Based in Arusha, not abroad
A licensed Tanzanian DMC. Message us and you're talking to the people running your trip — not an overseas booking desk reselling someone else's safari.
- →
A female trip manager on every departure
She handles logistics, gives cultural context, and is the first call if anything ever feels off during your trip.
- →
Eight seats. That's the actual limit.
Not a marketing line — the vehicle holds eight and the camps are booked for eight. Small because it's simply a better way to travel.
- →
Working to grow female guiding in Tanzania
Female driver-guides are still rare here. We're actively recruiting and training toward more, and we're upfront about where that work currently stands.

who books a women-only safari
Different reasons, same decision.
Solo travelers
You want Tanzania but had no one to go with. You join the group at the airport and it goes from there.
Milestone trips
A 40th, 50th, 60th. A degree finished, a divorce survived. A way to mark something real.
Friend groups
The "we should do Africa someday" group, finally booking it — your dates, your pace, your itinerary.
Corporate retreats
Women's leadership teams who want more than a conference room. Five days in the bush works differently.
women & kilimanjaro
More women summit Kilimanjaro than most people realise.
No mountaineering background needed — just steady fitness, patience with the slow pace, and a guide team that's taken hundreds of climbers to Uhuru Peak, including plenty of women well past 60.

before you book
What women ask us first.
No. Most guests are on their first Tanzania trip. We brief everyone fully beforehand, and our guides explain everything along the way — animal behaviour, camera settings in bush light, all of it.
Tanzania is one of East Africa's most stable destinations for visitors. The areas we operate in — Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Moshi, Zanzibar — are well-established for tourism, and our locally connected team adds another real layer of support.
Yes — that's how most of our group departures fill. You'll get details about the other travelers before you arrive, so it's not a total cold start. Solo travelers are the majority on our scheduled departures.
Mid-range tented camps with private en-suite bathrooms as standard — proper beds, hot water, a bar. Specific nights can be upgraded on request, and budget camping is available for Kilimanjaro climbs.
Very common request. Private departures run on your dates and pace. Send us your group size and rough timing and we'll have a proposal back within 48 hours.
You'll need to walk 5–8 hours a day at a slow, steady pace. Mental determination and listening to your guides matters more than gym fitness. We send a preparation guide once you book.
Female driver-guides are still rare in Tanzania, and we're upfront about that. Every departure has a female trip manager with you throughout, and we're actively recruiting and training toward more female guides.
A deposit secures your seat on a scheduled departure or holds your private group dates. The remaining balance is due before you travel, with the exact split and deadline confirmed in your booking quote. We accept bank transfer and major payment cards.
Safari packing is light and neutral-toned — layers, a hat, good sunglasses, sunscreen, and binoculars if you have them. Kilimanjaro needs proper cold-weather layers for the summit night. We send a full kit list once you book, and rental gear is available in Moshi if you don't want to buy everything.
It's a common question and nothing to worry about. Pack what you'd normally use, plus a few extra days' supply and waste bags, and let your trip manager know quietly if you need anything along the way. Toilet stops and porter support are built into the daily schedule regardless.
Most nationalities need a Tanzania visa, which can usually be arranged online before you fly or on arrival. Yellow fever vaccination is required if you're arriving from a country with risk of transmission, and we recommend checking with a travel health clinic for other recommended vaccinations before your trip.
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and most allergy-related diets are handled without issue on safari and on the mountain — just tell us when you book so the camp kitchens and mountain cooks can plan for it.
Mobile signal covers most safari areas and lodges, with Wi-Fi available at most camps. On Kilimanjaro, signal is patchy above the lower slopes, so most climbers go offline for summit days and reconnect on the way down. A local SIM card is easy to arrange on arrival in Arusha.
