Mount Meru Day Hike to Miriakamba Hut | Arusha National Park Trekking Adventure Itinerary

Tour Itinerary

This challenging day hike takes you from Momella Gate (1,500m) through lush montane forest to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m), covering approximately 10 kilometers with an altitude gain of about 1,000 meters. The trail winds through dense rainforest teeming with wildlife including buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, bushbucks, and various primate species such as black-and-white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys. As you ascend through different vegetation zones, the landscape transforms from tropical rainforest with giant fig trees and olive trees to heathland and moorland zones. Your experienced guide will point out endemic plant species, medicinal plants used by local communities, and diverse birdlife including turacos, hornbills, and various sunbird species. The trail offers spectacular viewpoints overlooking the crater floor, Momella Lakes, and on clear days, breathtaking panoramas of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak.

Upon reaching Miriakamba Hut, enjoy a well-deserved picnic lunch with spectacular mountain views before beginning your descent through the afternoon.
