Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Dar es Salaam - Nyerere National Park

• Travel Distance/Time: Scheduled flight (Approx. 1–1.5 hours) from Dar es Salaam

• Accommodation: Rufiji River Camp (Mid-range tented bush camp located inside Nyerere NP)

• Meals: Lunch and Dinner (Breakfast not included)

• Vehicle Type: Scheduled flight, followed by Camp’s open 4×4 safari vehicle

• Activities: Flight transfer, wildlife viewing en route, afternoon shared safari activity

Your safari adventure kicks off with a quick scheduled flight from Dar es Salaam, taking you directly to the Mtemere airstrip deep inside Nyerere National Park (which used to be called the Selous Game Reserve). Once you land, the camp’s own vehicle will pick you up, and the drive to the camp is actually a mini-game drive itself, keep your eyes peeled for animals along the way! After you get settled and enjoy lunch, you’ll join your first shared safari activity of the trip. Get ready to explore this amazing park and enjoy your first exciting night right in the bush!

Day 2-3: Nyerere National Park

• Travel Distance/Time: Local activities within Nyerere National Park

• Accommodation: Rufiji River Camp (Mid-range tented bush camp located inside Nyerere NP)

• Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (All meals included)

• Vehicle Type: Shared open 4×4 safari vehicles, boat, or walking

• Activities: Game drives, boat safaris, walking safaris, predator/prey spotting

For these two full days, you get to fully immerse yourself in the undisturbed beauty and fantastic wildlife of Nyerere! You’ll have a choice of shared activities offered by the camp, which usually include exciting game drives, peaceful boat safaris, and maybe even adventurous walking safaris. Keep an eye out for plenty of action, as predators and their prey are everywhere here. You can expect to see elephants, zebras, giraffes, and lots of different antelope species. When you’re out on the water, be sure to watch for crocodiles, hippos, and the hundreds of colorful bird species that hang out by the river.

Day 4: Nyerere National Park - Ruaha National Park

• Travel Distance/Time: Scheduled flight (Approx. 1–1.5 hours) from Nyerere to Ruaha

• Accommodation: Ruaha River Lodge (Mid-range lodge located inside Ruaha NP)

• Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (All meals included)

It’s time for a change of parks! Right after breakfast, you’ll be taken back to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Ruaha National Park. Once you land, the lodge’s vehicle will be waiting to pick you up, and this transfer drive is actually another great chance for wildlife spotting, so keep your camera ready! After you get to the lodge and have lunch, you’ll head out on your very first game drive in this incredible national park. Ruaha is a bit less crowded than some others, so it feels truly special and wild.

Day 5-6: Ruaha National Park

• Accommodation: Ruaha River Lodge (Mid-range lodge located inside Ruaha NP)

• Meals: Breakfast, Lunch (picnic or at lodge), and Dinner (All meals included)

• Activities: Morning and afternoon game drives, predator/prey spotting, full-day game drive option

Get ready for some of the best game viewing Tanzania has to offer! Today, you get to choose your adventure: either enjoy shared guided game drives both morning and afternoon, or go all-in with a full-day game drive that includes a fantastic picnic lunch out in the bush. Ruaha is an amazing place to spot predators, think lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and those highly sought-after wild dogs. You’ll also see tons of different antelope, including Grant’s gazelles and both greater and lesser kudu, plus zebras, waterbucks, impalas, and giraffes, often seen alongside huge herds of elephants and buffalo. It’s going to be an unforgettable day!

Day 7: Ruaha National Park - Dar es Salaam

• Travel Distance/Time: Scheduled flight (Approx. 2–3 hours) from Ruaha to Dar es Salaam

• Accommodation: No accommodation (End of tour/Drop-off)

• Meals: Breakfast (Lunch and dinner not included)

• Vehicle Type: Shared open 4×4 safari vehicle, followed by Scheduled flight

• Activities: Morning transfer, flight to Dar es Salaam, onward travel connections

After a final breakfast at the lodge, it’s time to head out. You will be taken to the local airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Dar es Salaam. Once you arrive in Dar, you’ll be all set to connect with your international flight home. If you aren’t leaving yet, this is also the perfect time to extend your vacation with a relaxing break at a stunning beach resort on the East Coast or, even better, a trip over to Zanzibar!
