4-Day Safari to Nyerere and Mikumi National Park

Tour Overview

You’re in for a treat with this 4-day safari to Nyerere and Mikumi Park. It’s the perfect way to get a real feel for Tanzania’s Southern Circuit, and the best part is it’s super easy, starting and ending right in Dar es Salaam. We kick things off in the massive, wild area of Nyerere National Park. Get ready for a unique boat safari right on the Rufiji River, you’ll see huge groups of hippos and crocodiles, plus tons of cool birds! Then we head over to Mikumi National Park. It’s known for having wide-open plains where spotting those big guys, elephants, giraffes, and buffalo, is almost guaranteed. Honestly, squeezing both the river action and the plain’s excitement into four days is an absolute blast, leaving you with memories and photos you’ll be showing off forever.

This area first became a protected space in 1896 under the German Governor, Hermann von Wissmann. It was later turned into a place for hunting in 1905. The park features interesting spots like the Rufiji River, which eventually meets the Indian Ocean near Mafia Island. The land itself has varied environments, including open grasslands, classic acacia trees, wet marsh areas, and large miombo forests. Despite the mix of habitats, the overall number of animals living here remains very high.
